Adverse Event Description

elevated heart rate/heart rate; felt faint; unwell; very pale; feeling in chest that could only be described as 'strange'; this is a spontaneous report received from a contactable reporter(s) (consumer or other non hcp) from the regulatory agency. regulatory number: gb-mhra-webcovid-202202231004486460-hfxso. other case identifier(s): gb-mhra-adr 26639150. a 14 year-old male patient received bnt162b2 (comirnaty), administration date 24jan2022 (batch/lot number: unknown) as dose 2, single for covid-19 immunisation. relevant medical history included: "headache" (unspecified if ongoing); "asthma" (unspecified if ongoing), notes: taking clenil twice a day to keep mild asthma under control. concomitant medication(s) included: influenza virus, administration date 20dec2021; calpol taken for headache; clenil modulite taken for asthma. vaccination history included: covid-19 vaccine (dose 1; manufacturer unknown), for covid-19 immunisation. the patient had no symptoms associated with covid-19 and was not enrolled in clinical trial. the following information was reported: 24 hours after the vaccination, the patient experienced heart rate increased (medically significant) with onset 25jan2022, outcome "recovered" (30jan2022), described as "elevated heart rate/heart rate", fluctuating elevated heart rate reaching 125bpm; dizziness (medically significant) with onset 25jan2022, outcome "recovered" (2022), described as "felt faint"; malaise (medically significant) with onset 25jan2022, outcome "recovered" (2022), described as "unwell"; pallor (medically significant) with onset 25jan2022, outcome "recovered" (2022), described as "very pale"; chest discomfort (medically significant) with onset 25jan2022, outcome "unknown", described as "feeling in chest that could only be described as 'strange'". they phoned the 111 helpline and a local doctor sent him to accident and emergency for an ecg due to the elevated heart rate. they were satisfied with the ecg results and sent him home, but the heart rate remained elevated above normal for several days, and the 'weird' feeling of being unwell also continued for 4 or 5 days. the accident and emergency consultant said that the elevated heart rate was a common side effect of the covid-19 vaccine, but they cannot find any reference to this in any of the materials they were given or have read. the events "elevated heart rate/heart rate", "felt faint", "unwell", "very pale" and "feeling in chest that could only be described as 'strange'" were evaluated at the physician office visit and emergency room visit. the patient underwent the following laboratory tests and procedures: electrocardiogram: (2022) unknown results; heart rate: (25jan2022) fluctuating elevated heart rate reaching 125bpm; sars-cov-2 test: (unspecified date) no - negative covid-19 test. the patient had not been tested positive for covid-19 since having the vaccine. no follow-up attempts are possible; information about lot/batch number cannot be obtained. no further information is expected
